Meet Catherine and Théophanie, founders of BYCAT.

Mother & daughter in a few words

I am Catherine Rouillaux, mother of 6 children and founder and director of the brand BYCAT . BYCAT is a brand of women's clothing made entirely in France for 9 years.

I'm Théophanie, I'm 28 years old, I've officially been working for BYCAT for two years, but I've always been there, behind the scenes: the shootings, the brand image, and of course, to support mom in this beautiful adventure born in the evenings and weekends, which has grown naturally over time.

I wanted delicate little tops, and Mom wanted to get back into sewing and embark on a new adventure. We started with a few designs, shared on social media, and it quickly took off. Customers started recommending them every month. We didn't think we'd make it such a successful brand, but word of mouth and the enthusiasm surrounding our pieces carried us forward. Little by little, we launched monthly collections, expanded the team, called on even more experienced seamstresses... and the project became what it is today. A family project was born!

Working with family

How do you manage working together?

Katherine: We have been working together for two and a half years already! I gave Théo carte blanche on the schedule and the organization from the beginning! Which must have been confusing for her, but I think she's getting used to it! ;) I wanted her to have as much fun doing things as I did, I also wanted her to be creative in her way of communicating, to make her place with her personality.

I have complete confidence in her and her motivation, it worked quickly and it works perfectly! Fortunately, we are not stuck in the Showroom! There is the office and I very often work from home. I always enjoy seeing her again, I hope she does too!

Theo: Quite simply, because we have very distinct roles. I'm in the showroom, managing logistics and welcoming customers. Mom is on the creative side, between the workshop and the seamstresses. We touch on everything, but our areas of expertise remain well defined, which makes our duo very complementary.

How do you manage stress on a daily basis?

Katherine: I try to work without stress, we make clothes :) It has to remain pleasant and fun.

The only pressure I tolerate is when I have an order in the wild or when I have a production defect... or a material defect, so it doesn't go very far ;)

I'm much more stressed with Philo's wedding to prepare!☀️

Theo: Honestly, I've never really been good at managing stress, so I don't have any great advice to give... The collections come out quickly, every 1 to 2 months, so there's always a little stress about making sure it's as popular as the previous one. But it's also very exciting! We work at our own pace, without too many projects in parallel, and that suits us fine.

What do you think is Théo's greatest quality?

Théo has unfailing motivation and above all the ambition to always go higher, or further... to constantly improve and I find that this is a precious quality when you are in the development of a company like ours. It's a bit like madam + 😂 I feel stronger by his side.

BEAUTY FROM MOTHER TO DAUGHTER

What is your vision of beauty?

Katherine: Beauty for me is the naturalness of healthy and perfectly makeup removed, it is the charm of a few wrinkles at the corner of the eyes and the elegance of an attitude for example.

Theo: Natural. I've never recognized myself in heavy makeup. I prefer an even complexion, protected skin, especially with my sensitive skinTaking care of my skin above all else is what makes me feel good and I enjoy doing it!

The #1 beauty tip you shared with your daughter Catherine?

I believe that beauty also involves a sports and dietary routine, I tried to share with Théo that taking time for yourself is essential, the obligatory tip that I give him is the SPF everyday !

Your biggest beauty mistake, Theo?

Not wearing sunscreen between the ages of 20 and 25. I thought it was only for the beach. Today, with melasma and reactive skin, I no longer skip it. SPF all year.

When you were little, did you steal your mom's beauty products?

Obviously! I tried a few lipsticks (not always successful), but mostly blush or a little mascara to “look like the grown-ups”.

Their Oryza Lab favorites

makeup and beauty products

Catherine: My biggest Oryza Lab favorites are The Perfecting Peel et Beauty Oil, two essentials that refine my skin texture, gradually remove my spots and hydrate.

Le Revitalizing Mask is hot too :)

Theo: Two essentials: their SPF 50 oil, very pleasant and easy to apply which gives a super healthy glow! Ôtentik Moisturizing cream, simple and effective, perfect for my sensitive skin.
