Holistic rice-based skincare

A chance meeting... in the middle of the rice fields

It was one evening in July in 2018 that Miguel Cancio Martins, a Portuguese architect, and Marianne Brass, a French expert in cosmetic development, met in Comporta during a dinner with friends. Miguel showed her the project he was working on: the Quinta da Comporta Hotel, a former rice farm that he restored into a luxury hotel overlooking the rice fields. Marianne told him about her professional career in the cosmetics industry and more specifically about the benefits of rice in beauty. Together they created Oryza Lab, a rice-based skincare brand that combines the rice-growing traditions of Comporta with French cosmetic know-how.

BORN IN COMPORTA. MADE IN FRANCE.

her vision of beauty

Marianne Brass, co-founder

“I am my first customer. I always wanted to create a brand that would meet all my requirements: an immersive brand with which I identify. A brand, which, like a friend, would accompany me and carry the values that are dear to me: honest, transparent, respectful, authentic, free, sincere, effective, sensory, confident. A brand that goes well beyond the product: a state of mind. I wanted to offer fair and uncompromising beauty: formulas that are respectful of the skin, effective, sensory... at an honest price. Transparent beauty without lies or false promises. A beauty that does not work miracles, but brings progress. A beauty that accompanies us and adapts to our skin moods, to the seasons, to the passage of time and to the stages of life.

clean skincare that respects the skin

Oryza Lab treatments follow a very strict formulation charter, without any harmful or controversial ingredients. The skin is the largest organ of the body and absorbs all active ingredients, which go directly into our body. So, safety is our top priority. More than 3 years of research and development were necessary to develop ultra-clean formulas that met our requirements. Our treatments contain 0% parabens, silicones, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, PEG, mineral oils, phthalates, formalin releasers, triclosan, sulfates, chlorphenesin, artificial colors, ingredients of animal origin, EDTA, lanolin, denatured alcohol BHT/BHA… They are vegan, cruelty-free and rated excellent on Yuka.

EFFICIENT SKINCARE

At Oryza Lab, we aim for transparent and fair beauty. We do not promise miracles but quality. We are against greenwashing, which uses ecology as a marketing argument. We do not ban scientific active ingredients from our formulation, as long as they are 100% clean. We use scientific active ingredients with proven effectiveness such as niacinamide, glycolic acid and peptides. We insert each active ingredient at the optimal effective dosage, as given by science. We do not use any active ingredient at a marketing dosage: dosage which allows it to be written on the packaging but which in no way guarantees effectiveness. We are committed to a respectful and effective formulation, with the right active ingredients in the right dosage.

PRODUCTS DESIGNED IN SYNERGY

“By creating Oryza Lab, I immediately wanted to offer routines, in order to meet the needs of all skin types in a targeted manner. Each skin is unique and has its own moods, which vary according to the seasons and internal and external factors (stress, hormones, etc.). We must constantly adapt our care to the condition of our skin to maintain its balance. To be healthy, the skin needs at least good makeup removal, regular exfoliation, a targeted serum, and a moisturizer. We alternate and layer products to meet our needs precisely. Thanks to layering, we ensure a perfect symbiosis between the active ingredients for increased effectiveness: the products are much more effective within a routine than alone.” Marianne Brass.
